3D POST-PRODUCTION

3D Post-Production

The 3D Company is experienced in 3D post-production and delivering 3D to multiple platforms (see Testimonials).

3D post-productions is a demanding and complicated task because stereoscopic stereoscopic 3D film (S3D) productions shot in “native 3D” always contain problems and footage that requires fixing in post.

Common  S3D problems include: differences in the colour of the two images, vertical and horizontal alignment problems, excessive parallax, lens warp, keystoning, Brewster’s Effect, polarization of light issues, excessive highlights, discrepancies between the left and right eye, window violations, strange lens flares etc – these are largely the result of shooting via a mirror (mirror rig).

S3D post-production typically takes place across several stages: basic fixes and adjustments when common stereo problems are fixed; conversion from 2D to 3D of problem shots which cannot be fixed when one eye is ‘lost’ or the sync was too far gone to be fixed; conversion of 2D shots into 3D where 2D was chosen for speed, budgetary or technical reasons; creative depth grade, which is followed by depth grade for the technical delivery schedules (e.g. Sky 3D, YouTube 3D, and D-Cinema 3D DCP).
